Khabar Khair (Only Good News)

On Thursday, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the Public Authority for Environmental Protection organized a training workshop in Aden on improving and strengthening the capabilities of the Public Authority for Environmental Protection to effectively coordinate with the Green Climate Fund.

The workshop lasted for five days, and was attended by a number of representatives from government sectors and ministries. It explained the importance of Green Climate Fund in protecting the environment and a number of other similar funds in Yemen, and how to prepare proposals for GCF funding. It also introduced climate risks (natural hazards, including high temperature, torrential rains, floods, and droughts), and how to deal with them through mitigation, adaptation, and building climate resilience.

Eng. Faisal Al-Thalabi, head of the Public Authority for Environmental Protection, explained that the workshop aimed to empower g the Authority in the Green Fund to support Yemen, increase its flexibility, improve its capabilities in combating climate change and its impacts through adaptation and mitigation, which would help overcome some of the obstacles and challenges facing climate action in Yemen to obtain special funding for several projects from the Green Climate Fund.

Via Zoom, Mohammed Salam, the representative of the FAO, and Mr. Abdul Wahed Arman, Director of Climate Change Unit, Environment Protection Authority, confirmed that the FAO is looking forward to being a partner with various government sectors to benefit from the previous experiences of countries in cooperating with the Green Climate Fund.
