The European Union (EU) announced a new grant of €200,000 to address the needs of those affected by recent floods in nine Yemeni governorates.
The Directorate-General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (ECHO), in its daily news report on disasters and humanitarian crises worldwide, stated on Monday that it has allocated €200,000 to respond to the urgent humanitarian needs of those affected by floods that struck Yemen at the end of April 2024.
The report added that the funds have been allocated to the Disaster Relief Emergency Fund (DREF) of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) to provide assistance to 3,025 families (21,175 individuals) affected by floods in the governorates of Abyan, Taiz, Al-Jawf, Hadramaut, Shabwah, Sa’ada, Marib, Al-Mahra, and Al-Dhale’e.
The European Directorate indicated that this funding would support the efforts of the Yemen Red Crescent Society (YRCS) in providing necessary aid to those affected, including shelter and household hygiene items.
