The head of the European Commission Delegation, Andreas Papaconstantinou, who is visiting Aden nowadays, stressed the continuation of implementing programs and interventions in the humanitarian and developmental fields, and supporting government efforts to improve the living conditions of citizens. He renewed the Commission’s commitment to implementing sustainable development projects in the sectors of education, health, water, electricity, etc., and pushing society into the labor market and production.
He stated this during his meeting with the Minister of Social Affairs, Dr. Mohammed Al-Zaouri, on Tuesday, in Aden Governorate. The head of the Commission expressed his readiness to mobilize donors’ support in international organizations and agencies in order to support development programs and relief and the return of the displaced projects.
In addition, Al-Zaouri stressed the need to provide the necessary support to implement small income-generating projects and provide new job opportunities to reduce unemployment among young people. He pointed out that more than 80% of the population falls below the poverty line. This requires the international community to unite to address the economic weakness and support development projects.
