Shabwa and Marib, Yemen – Human Access has initiated a comprehensive series of programs aimed at empowering women and girls in the governorates of Shabwa and Marib through its “Safe Space for Women and Girls” project, funded by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center. The project aims to uphold the human rights of Yemeni women and improve their livelihoods.

In Shabwa, the safe space located in Ataq hosted an awareness session focusing on women’s financial independence, attracting numerous participants. The session highlighted the importance of overcoming economic barriers women face and emphasized enhancing their access to finance and credit, alongside skills to manage their financial affairs and develop businesses.

Meanwhile, in Marib’s Al-Matar area, staff conducted field visits to identify vulnerable women and girls eligible for training programs aimed at rehabilitation and economic empowerment. Recognizing the psychological impacts of crises on women, the initiative also offered group psychological support sessions to address issues such as psychological stagnation and its harmful effects.

The Marib safe space organized five awareness sessions. The first coincided with World Breastfeeding Week, promoting the benefits of breastfeeding for mothers and children. Subsequent sessions covered gender equality, the role of women in society, marital issues, and the significance of family laws in fostering healthy family dynamics.

In the Al-Jufaina area, two additional sessions focused on time management skills and the dangers of early marriage, aiming to educate participants on important social issues.

Entertainment activities for children were also part of the initiative, along with two training courses: one in sewing and tailoring, and another in crafting incense burners and artistic artifacts, equipping the most vulnerable women with practical skills for economic self-sufficiency.

In Wadi Marib, success stories were monitored, and a vocational training course in engraving arts was completed, alongside a program designed to enhance life, financial, and marketing skills, preparing participants to successfully manage their small businesses.

These initiatives reflect a significant step towards empowering women and girls in Yemen, fostering greater economic independence and enhancing their overall well-being in challenging circumstances.
