  • Conclusion of the Scientific Workshop on Palm Cultivation and Date Production in Wadi Hadramout

Seiyun, Yemen – A workshop titled “Date Palm Cultivation and Date Production – Problems and Solutions” concluded today in Seiyun. Organized by the Bin Kardous Development Foundation and the Hadramout Center for Research and Strategic Studies, the workshop was part of the Date Palm and Dates Festival in Wadi Hadramout.

Over the course of two days, the workshop featured numerous scientific research papers and studies presented by experts, academics, researchers, and agricultural engineers specializing in date palm cultivation and date production. Discussions centered around challenges facing date palm cultivation and solutions to ensure its sustainability and increase production.

Abdulhadi Al-Tamimi, Assistant Undersecretary for Wadi and Desert Affairs in Hadramout Governorate, emphasized the workshop’s significance in raising awareness about the importance of preserving date palms and enhancing date production. He stressed the need to address related issues, analyze them, and implement swift interventions in date palm cultivation.

The Director of the Agriculture Office, Eng. Shukri Bamousa, and the Head of the Hadramout Center for Research and Strategic Studies, Eng. Najmi Al-Tamimi, called upon all relevant authorities to collaborate and integrate their efforts in this field. They highlighted the vital role of date palms and dates as a food and economic resource for the community and urged for overcoming obstacles to implement the workshop’s recommendations.

The workshop was attended by the Deputy Director General of the Agriculture Office, Al-Barak Al-Amri, the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture at Seiyun University, Dr. Mohammed Al-Qatami, the General Managers of the Agricultural Research Stations in Seiyun, Eng. Awad Alwan, and the Hadramout Coast, Dr. Amjad Bin Quwayqo, along with numerous academics, doctors, and agricultural engineers. The event fostered extensive discussions and valuable insights on the subject.

Key recommendations from the workshop included promoting date palm cultivation, disseminating information about its cultivation, pests, and control methods through agricultural colleges and research centers, activating the tissue culture laboratory at the Seiyun Agricultural Research Station, and enforcing laws and regulations to protect date palms.
