The United States is providing nearly $220 million in additional humanitarian aid to help the people of Yemen, including nearly $200 million through USAID and nearly $20 million through the Department of State. This brings the United States’ total assistance to the humanitarian response in Yemen to nearly $5.9 billion since the conflict began in September 2014.

These additional funds will support humanitarian partners to continue to reach millions of vulnerable Yemenis, as well as refugees and asylum seekers in Yemen, with treatment of malnutrition and provision of primary healthcare, safe drinking water, gender-based violence care, and psychosocial support for crisis-affected populations.

More than 18 million Yemenis are estimated to need humanitarian assistance in the country, with the majority in Houthi-controlled areas of the north. This additional aid and its safe, unimpeded delivery to the most vulnerable is as critical as ever to save lives. As the largest donor of humanitarian assistance to the country, the United States is committed to supporting the people of Yemen, who are grappling with a devastating humanitarian crisis. However, we cannot meet the needs alone. Other donors must join us in stepping up to meet these needs and close the significant funding gaps so that humanitarian organizations can continue to respond effectively and prevent conditions in Yemen from worsening.
