The United Nations World Food Program (WFP) has received significant assistance to bolster its food program in Yemen, with a confirmation of a generous contribution of four million Australian dollars from the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT).
In a tweet on Twitter, the WFP stated, ‘Millions of families in Yemen depend on the food aid we provide.’ Additionally, they highlighted that the new funding and aid would aid in supporting vulnerable families in Yemen who are grappling with food insecurity by providing essential food rations.
Through the utilization of mobile clinics, the WFP also supplies children with supplementary food to address and prevent malnutrition, particularly in remote regions.
It is imperative to note that Yemen is currently confronting one of the severest humanitarian and economic crises. The majority of its populace resides in challenging humanitarian conditions due to the nearly nine-year-long ongoing war. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) warns that Yemen faces the potential depletion of groundwater within the next 20 years.
Ralph Wahba, Deputy Head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) delegation in Yemen, emphasizes that the critical water scarcity places Yemeni children at significant risk, with many parents relying on the assistance of their children to secure water.
