Yemen Women’s Union in Lahj Governorate has initiated a program for providing empowerment tools as part of the “Livelihood and Economic Empowerment through Safe Spaces for Women and Girls” project supported by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). The project aims to empower 12 women in the fields of sweets and pastries, as well as foodstuffs, through the distribution of economic empowerment tools.
Mr. Omar Al-Samati, the Adviser of Lahj Governorate for Organizations Affairs, confirmed the significance of women’s empowerment projects in supporting stability and continuous work. He further emphasized the local authority’s tendency towards promoting such projects in a sustainable manner.
Amina Zaid, the Director of the Safe Space Empowerment and Livelihoods Project, stated that the distribution of empowerment tools in the first quarter marks the continuity of the safe space activity in training beneficiaries and alleviating poverty for women who suffer from economic problems and gender-based violence.
Since its establishment in 2019, the project has targeted more than 1,000 women at the level of Al-Hawtah and Tuban Districts.
