Last Wednesday, an agreement was signed to rehabilitate 170 damaged houses in Al-Shaheed Mudram Street in Al-Mualla district out of 600 houses in Al-Mualla and Khormaksar districts.
This is the second phase of the Adequate Housing Project funded by the Saudi Program for the Development and Reconstruction of Yemen and Alwaleed Humanitarian Foundation and implemented by the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN Habitat). The agreement included the completion of the work within 120 days from the start of receiving the agreed upon sites, after Eid Al-Fitr holiday.
Dr. Mohammad Aidarous Zain, Official of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme, explained that the project aims to rehabilitate 600 houses in Aden Governorate, 300 houses in Al-Mualla district, and another 300 houses in Khormaksar district in four phases. The first phase includes the rehabilitation and handover of 150 homes in Hafun, Al-Mualla. The second phase was launched on Wednesday, aiming to rehabilitate 170 homes on the main street in Al-Mualla.
He also stressed that the project includes qualifying the engineers of the Ministry of Public Works and Highways by holding courses for more than 45 engineers in different fields. It also includes qualifying unemployed youth by training 200 young men and women in the districts of Al-Mualla and Khormaksar to participate in the rehabilitation of homes.
At the inauguration ceremony, Mr. Abdulrahim Jawi, the Director General of Al-Mualla District, delivered a speech in which he praised the efforts of the Saudi Program in the projects it implements in Aden. Mohammed Al-Yahya, the Deputy Director of the Saudi Program for the Development and Reconstruction of Yemen in Aden, also spoke about launching the second phase of the Adequate Housing Project to rehabilitate 170 houses in Aden Governorate after the completion of the first phase, which aimed at rehabilitating and handing over 150 houses to the beneficiaries of the project in Hafoun, Al-Mualla in December last year.
