Funded by the Saudi Program for the Development and Reconstruction of Yemen, the Arab Gulf Program for Development (AGFUND), and the Selah Foundation for Development, the Deputy Governor of Abyan, Mohammad Nasser Al-Jahma, inaugurated a project to provide drinking water to people. The project is operated with solar energy, and is part of the renewable energy project, which aims to improve the quality of life in Yemen.
The project aimed to meet the citizens’ needs for water. It targeted 21,300 people in four projects, which are: Al-Musaimeer project in Khanfar District, Sala project in Zonjobar District, Al-Hudhon project in Lawdar District, and Al-Masani project in Ahwar District. The project was implemented after conducting integrated studies of the urgent needs of these areas’ residents for water and their great suffering due to its lack and difficulty of getting it.
The project was part of the objectives of the first component of the solar energy systems project, which includes the operation of 12 drinking water projects in 11 beneficiary districts in three Yemeni governorates: Hadhramout, Abyan, and Lahj, which benefit about 58,500,000 beneficiaries from the neediest groups.
