King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center signed a joint cooperation agreement with the World Food Program worth $20 million to address food insecurity in Yemen.

Saba indicated that under the agreement, the urgent basic food needs of about 524,000 Yemeni families will be met. Such families have been going through the worst humanitarian and food crisis in the world due to the eight-year conflict in the country.

Richard Ragan, the representative and country director of the United Nations World Food Program in Yemen, said that the humanitarian response provided by Saudi Arabia is a part of its humanitarian efforts to spare the most needy families the risk of starvation.

He also pointed out the contributions of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the response to humanitarian programs in Yemen, which has amounted to $1.168 billion since 2015.

Moreover, the Assistant Supervisor General of King Salman Center for Operations and Programs, Ahmed Al-Beez, confirmed that about 16,908 tons of wheat flour will be purchased and distributed in order to enhance food security in the governorates of Aden, Al-Dhale’a, Al-Hodeidah, Ma’rib, Shabwa, Taiz and Hajjah.

In a recent report by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), 80% of Yemen’s population struggle to access adequate food, water and health services.
