  • Vaccination campaign against COVID-19 for immigrants

Khabar Khair (Only Good News)

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has begun a COVID-19 vaccination campaign for migrants stranded in Yemen, with the goal of vaccinating approximately 7,500 people at Migrant Response Points in Aden and Marib. The immunization campaign is implemented in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization, with funding from the Governments of Germany and Finland, as well as the European Union Humanitarian Aid Department.

It also welcomed the government’s commitment to protecting migrants against the COVID-19 pandemic and noted that immunization of people on the move is essential to combating the spread of the disease.  According to Christa Rottsteiner, IOM’s Chief of Mission in Yemen  “There are not enough doses to protect everyone in Yemen from this bitterness”. She indicated that more support from the international community is needed to provide the country with sufficient life-saving vaccines.

IOM also worked to support the efforts of the Ministry of Health to vaccinate vulnerable and hard-to-reach populations. Health workers, people with chronic diseases and elderly citizens, who were vaccinated in the governorates of Aden, Marib and Taiz, were included.
