The pedestrian bridges maintenance and rehabilitation project in Khor Al-Mukalla has been inaugurated as part of the “Strengthening Institutional and Economic Resilience” (SIERY) initiative, funded by the European Union and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in collaboration with Al-Khair Coalition for Humanitarian Relief and in coordination with the local authorities in Hadhramaut.
This project is a priority in the development plan of the local authority. The work included maintenance of the terminal and central pillars of the bridges, in addition to reinforcing the metal structure and improving the area’s lighting. This development comes after the bridges suffered deterioration due to natural wear over nearly twenty years since their construction.
Thanks to this project, the bridges are now safer and more efficient, enhancing pedestrian safety and revitalizing the aesthetic view of Khor Al-Mukalla. Representatives from the European Union and UNDP, along with local officials, participated in the inauguration.
