In a significant developmental step, the foundation stone for the construction of a fish export center was laid yesterday, Thursday, in Aden Governorate at a cost reaching up to 1.5 million dollars. This project comes as part of efforts to enhance the infrastructure of the fisheries sector, funded by the European Union and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme, within the Strengthening Institutional and Economic Resilience in Yemen (SIERY) project.

The center, which will extend over an area of 7000 square meters, aims to improve the processes of exporting fish, whether frozen or fresh, to foreign markets. The center will include various facilities such as laboratories for inspecting fish samples, ice factories, refrigerators, warehouses, in addition to halls for fish preparation, thereby enhancing the sector’s ability to meet international export standards.

This project is not just new infrastructure; it is a gateway to improving the lives of many fishermen and workers in the fisheries sector through the creation of new job opportunities and investment prospects. The implementation of this center will coincide with another project for the rehabilitation of the fishing port, reflecting a commitment to developing the fisheries sector to be more efficient and sustainable.
