The United Nations announced the allocation of more than 5 million dollars to address the worsening food insecurity in the most affected districts and areas within Yemen.

In a recent infographic, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in Yemen (UNOCHA) stated, “The first reserve allocation of 5.4 million US$ from the Yemen Humanitarian Fund (YHF) has been launched to address the projected increase in malnutrition due to the halt of food assistance distribution to vulnerable households in five governorates.”

The allocation aims to provide urgent, life-saving food assistance to approximately 267,000 people across 34 districts in Ad-Dhali’, Al-Hodeidah, Hajjah, Taiz, and Raymah governorates. These are “priority districts showing the highest convergence of needs based on multi-sectoral indicators,” the office added.

UNOCHA explained that this allocation will support the distribution of US$20 million worth of nutrition supplies already available with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the World Food Program (WFP). It will also complement a 7 million US$ Rapid Response grant from the Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF), released in March 2024, to enable WFP to begin general food distribution ahead of the lean season.
