Aden Governorate is preparing to receive electricity from a new 120-megawatt solar power plant in Al-Buraiqeh district within days, after the completion of final tests.

Prime Minister Dr. Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak visited the plant, which spans an area of 1.6 million square meters and is a grant from the United Arab Emirates to support the energy sector in Yemen, today, Monday.

Officials at the plant confirmed that construction work has been completed by 100%, and that it has entered the trial operation phase in preparation for connecting it to the electricity grid soon.

This project is the first and largest of its kind in Yemen to generate electricity using clean and renewable energy, and included the installation of more than 211,000 solar panels and more than 900 kilometers of electrical cables, in addition to 12 substations, 9 kilometers of high-voltage lines, and a main transformer station.

The Prime Minister praised the support of the United Arab Emirates for this vital project, stressing the importance of moving towards renewable energy to find sustainable solutions for the electricity sector in Yemen.
