Around 10,250 children and 150 teachers in Yemen will benefit from muti-sectoral response to support education in emergencies thanks to a contribution from the EU Humanitarian Aid.

The funding will enable UNICEF to provide comprehensive support to both out-of-school children and those already enrolled to ensure that children enter school at the right age and are able to continue learning without dropping out of school.

The project targeting communities and schools in Bajil district in Hudaydah, will provide wide-ranging support including rehabilitation of schools, provision of learning materials, teachers’ incentives and training.

Case management, life-skills training and referral services will be offered to children in vulnerable situations and unconditional cash assistance will be provided to families facing economic and other challenges such as displacement and disability of their children.

To ensure a safe and appropriate learning environment, UNICEF will rehabilitate or establish learning spaces within and outside schools, including gender-sensitive and disability-oriented latrines and hand washing stations.

“We are grateful for the funding, which allows us to comprehensively address challenges hindering children from attending school and continuing education. The contribution will help tens of thousands of children shape a better future and fulfill their potential through education, the backbone of the country’s development,” said Peter Hawkins, UNICEF Representative to Yemen.
